Back to Vitória da Conquista!

Cold and foggy weekend in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, but I did have a great time there. Just returned from a three-day teaching marathon, working with teachers from various cities around southwestern Bahia. Very nice people, eager to learn, and full of interesting and enriching experiences to share. As usual, we had some time to get together and socialize a bit. On Sunday morning, the day this picture was taken, we had lunch together. We ordered "feijoada" from a nice local restaurant located on the "lado de lá", as they call the low and low middle-class section which is part of Vitória's folkloric social divide. The "lado de cá" of the BR-116 highway, potentially, comprises the area where the middle and high-middle class dwell. Most of them, as I learned later, were from the "lado de lá", which I thought was great. More opportunities to them. Those are details the visitor gets to know only when mingling with locals, of course. It was a great weekend at UESB, and I truly hope I have to chance to return. Salut from rainy Salvador, friends!
