Niemeyer at 100

Needless to repeat here that architect Oscar Niemeyer is a genius and that we Brazilians are very proud of him. I dare to say that together with Pelé, Niemeyer is one of the 10th most well-known Brazilians worldwide. His contributions to the field of architecture, leaving his special trace where man's hand beautifully meets in plain harmony with nature, gives us a simple idea why nobody can pass by one of Niemeyer's projects and not being touched by it. If he's to have a very special project to be remembered by, I would say, everybody would think of the several monuments and governamental buildings which comprise Brasília's original "pilot plan", today UNESCO's world patrimony. How lucky we are for having someone like Niemeyer for one century! When asked about how he feels reaching 100 years of age, from the height of his unquestionable wisdom, the master replied: "No big deal about turning 100. The funny thing is that after you reach 70, you're always saying goodbye to your friends". This is Niemeyer, and I'm very proud of him.
